Free trials are always the way to go when testing level 1 If you want an mp3 player (instead of phone or computer or car) I think the best ones are the Sandisk ones. cheap, excellent sound quality, etc. I'd use the library to get books, audible and friends. level 1 What are you interested in listening to? I narrate and may be able to send you a credit for a free audiobook depending on what you're looking for. Admittedly I narrate mostly erotica and self-help type books. Also one longer young adult sci-fi romance. level 1 I use overdrive (both site and app), which lets me take out digital titles from my library. I also use smart audio book player app. To get started, take some books on cd from the library, rip them to your phone, and go:) level 1 Audiovox is a good way to try out listening to narrators. They are volunteers that read public domain titles and you can listen through the website or the free app. level 2 I would actually recommend not starting with Librivox if you want to try out listening to audiobooks.

level 1 I used Audible's free trial, then found out my local library offers hundreds of thousands of audiobooks through the OverDrive, Hoopla and RBdigital for free. Combined, those apps offer quite an impressive selection. The only drawback is that sometimes you may need to put a 'Hold' on an audiobook download as they have limited copies. level 2 LIbby is another great app for free audio books but there is often a wait for popular books. I have been waiting for about 3 months for books from the Harry Potter series. I also use Audible more often as I'm pretty inpatient and listen to close to 60 books a year. level 1 Audible because it's easy and requires me to do nothing but listen. level 2 Of course, the library is free. Then again, there can be waiting lists. Audible's "No Questions Asked" return policy makes choosing zero risk -- and the title you want is always in stock (unless the publisher pulls the audiobook for some reason. ) Audible has a fee but they have constant sales and BOGO deals so if you are wise, they're almost always a bargain.

I've listened to several, and it's great for old books that you can't find as an audiobook anywhere else. But the quality of recording and narration varies significantly, and a couple poor quality Librivox books could turn you off from audiobooks. I would recommend going with other options to start out with, because professionally produced audiobooks will give you a better and more consistent listening experience. level 1 I use both Audible and Overdrive/Libby. Typically what I do is use Audible for new releases since the library can have a 6 month + hold on newer books. The ability to check a book out from the library and have someone read it to you, while you lounge from your couch, for FREE... What more can you ask for? level 1 I started off with the 3 month trial you get from Amazon prime. First book was ready player one by Ernest Cline read by Will Wheaton and was hooked. Have since finished an entire series by Peter V Brett costing me over £100 in total and am now looking for something new.
I like the Amazon Echoes for reading because I can control them hands free. When showering, doing dishes, folding laundry, etc. my hands are typically busy. I'm not a fan of constantly having my phone nearby or having earphones in so I very rarely listen via my cell phone.
